When was this album released?

Tears Laid in Earth is the debut album by the doom metal band The 3rd and the Mortal, released in 1994. This album was the release in which the band was first categorized as a doom metal act; however, they have since experimented with genres such as progressive rock, jazz and electronica, making this their last doom metal release.), this was also the last album to feature Kari Rueslåtten.

What I’ve liked about this album?

It all began with this album. I was still in High School and have just began discovering new(for me)and unique music that derives from almighty Metal. The first impression was not great; I was used to the default Metal Black/Death/Power/Gothic/Symphonic riffs and melodies.  To be honest, the only impression that kept me chained to this album was Kari Rueslåtten‘s voice. Her voice can certainly melt the hardest of hearts! Soon after that, I was caught in the web of the general Doom atmosphere and musical artistry of this album, and the rest is the history.

What I hated about this album?

The only thing I hate about this band is that they don’t exist anymore.

If this album was a dish, what dish would it be?

I’d say that this album couldn’t be any food. More precisely, I feel that this album can represent some sort of starving-emotional or physical.

If this album was a place, where would it be?

Some distant and foggy valley close to the woods.

Perfect setting for this album?

Imagine the ‘Twin Peaks’ atmosphere/episode, and add a little guitar to it.

Is this album more a man or a woman?

Half man, half woman.

This album can be a drink, too. What drink would it be?

Warm wine with spices.

A go-to song from this album?

‘Why So Lonely’.

A song from this album that could be turned into a hymn?

‘Why So Lonely’.

Similar albums, similar artists?

The Gathering in their early days.

How can this album make your life better?

It’s narrative can make you feel like you’re reading a book or watching a play/movie, I think it’s a really unique piece of art, and that it was made before it’s time. 1994, I can’t believe it!
