When was this album released?

“Pain Is Beauty” is the fourth studio album from American singer-songwriter and eponymous band, Chelsea Wolfe released on September 3, 2013.through Sargent House.

What I’ve liked about this album?

Chelsea’s music has always been somewhat “out there” in a matter of style and concept; it is on point-dark, elegant and well made. I was very intrigued by her angelic and dually, melancholic voice, but, to be honest, her albums were like an unfortunate stranger, the passenger that just… passes by and leaves nothing to be desired. There just wasn’t much relatable content that could lure you in and hold you tight FOREVER AND EVER(evil overlord laugh took place here).

With all that said, this album is a game changer. Her voice, the arrangements, flirtation with genres like sludge metal, psychedelic folk, even post-punk made this album a masterpiece.
In short, what I’ve mostly liked about this album is it’s pure dark, masterfully conducted seductiveness.

What I hated about this album?

It has too many songs, which leads to lack of focus.

If this album was a dish, what dish would it be?

Dark chocolate cake, definitely. It would be made out of 40% dark chocolate and the middle section would have a light hazel cream. There would be cherries (filled with finest cherry brandy)placed at the random places in the cake, as a surprise.

If this album was a place, where would it be?

Abandoned, gothic mansion or an English cemetery.

Perfect setting for this album?

I think that her music video for a single “Feral Love”speaks in the name of the whole album’s visual identity.

Is this album more a man or a woman?

Woman.

This album can be a drink, too. What drink would it be?

Cherry brandy.

A go-to song from this album?

“House of Metal”.

A song from this album that could be turned into a hymn?

“The Warden”.

Similar albums, similar artists?

Imagine Inkubus sukkubus, the band, (especially with their song”Witches”)have met Marissa Nadler in her darkest moment and then they all went on a drug-related soul-searching trip through Europe, visiting castles, book readings and exibitions.

How can this album make your life better?

It can show you the different aspects of every experience.
