2016. was, and still is, a year of middle-fingering to the logic and to the sane world in general. This is the year when we can safely say that Idiocracy became more real than ever and we lost a lot of good men on our side.
With that said, I can add one more thing to the list of experiences: this year’s ending. Imagine this elegantly beautiful landscape of my awesomeness: tea, medicine, paper towels, forgotten TV Shows, blankets, cat in the lap, you get the picture.
I am writing this article as a form of waywardness. Only good things remain, and the quality is something that (I think)has to be mentioned and honored.The Music will not be covered, since I am writing about it actively on the website.
So… I present to you, my personal Best of 2016. list!
TV Shows
Being a big fan of the quality TV program, I had a few depressions here and there during the past year. Superheroes everywhere, expensive CGI, extremely bad acting and reboots of the already existing reboots did their thing. Everyone went crazy over this except me. Or am I asking for too much?
(Note: the order of the items is not of relevance)
1. The Expanse (TV Series 2015– )
Finally, a smart sci-fi TV Show that doesn’t rely on empty stories and “mysterious ways of the human nature”. The cast is excellent and believable, the plotline is thick and consistent and you definitely have to follow-up each episode. Smart dialogs and political aspect of the show really did it a favor, and I definitely recommend reading a book first.
2. Halt and Catch Fire (TV Series 2014– )
I feel like a lonely nerd about crazy loving this show, and I’m proud to say it: this is one of the most underrated shows of the past few years.
There must be a reason this show isn’t as popular as I think it should be. Here are just a few of my assumptions:
I. The “new kids”have no interest in how the Internet became what it is today;
II. People are generally not interested in good drama series, complex human relationships, which this series is full of;
III. There isn’t enough (or any)adult-oriented material that would catch the eye of the shallow follower;
IV. It has too many hardware terminology, which is somewhat strange or unwanted to the software oriented mindset;
3. Black Mirror (TV Series 2011– )
Black Mirror is, and still remains, my favorite show for the past few years, and this is not an easy thing to say. Great pieces of art don’t just sit in the past, they re-invent and see the future, in which BM excelled.
Just a few thoughts on the new episodes:
S3, Ep1 21 Oct. 2016 Nosedive/Posting your selfies once a day serves a bigger question which you are probably not aware of.
S3, Ep2 21 Oct. 2016 Playtest/Where are the psychological and physical limits of the VR gaming?
S3, Ep3 21 Oct. 2016 Shut Up and Dance/Everyone can serve as an online Morale “God” in a world full of sinners who don’t have a proper internet security education.
S3, Ep4 21 Oct. 2016 San Junipero/I’ve cried like a baby. After I die I want to be uploaded on these servers, too.
S3, Ep5 21 Oct. 2016 Men Against Fire/Do you really know who are you fighting for?
S3, Ep6 21 Oct. 2016 Hated in the Nation/What would happen if the likeability of your online appearance starts affecting your offline life, too?
4. Wayward Pines (TV Series 2015– )
Very interesting and intensive thriller/sci-fi TV Show that shows us the one “possibility” that could happen in the future of the human race. The second season has ups and downs, and I consider it to be not as good as the first one, but it is definitely something that should be watched.
The Show is based on Blake Crouch’s novels.
5. Planet Earth II (TV Mini-Series 2016)
The secret life of animals can be as cruel as a Game of Thrones episode, as funny as the best IT Crowd moments, and as adventurous as you can imagine. The world around us is a treasure and this TV Show presents that with all new technical improvements and exquisite quality of direction. And don’t forget epic music and David Attenborough!
Other Stuff
6. ’90s comeback
It’s not about the chokers, as for fashion and music, as well. Since I grew up in the ’90s, this was my era, so I applaud it with a smile.
7. Marie Kondo, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing
The world went absolutely crazy for her methods, and it really inspires you to have more functional surroundings and to have more stuff with having actually, less.
8. Exercise and Eating Healthy
The number one goal for 2017: staying fit and healthy. I managed to take off the few extra pounds that I wasn’t happy about, and I feel lighter and fuller of energy for life. Pilates 3x a week helps, too.
9. Doing what makes You happy
If you’re rolling your eyes right now, don’t just shy away. Doing what you love has never been as crucial as today, where you can do everything and nothing at the same time.
Take time&effort to find out what really makes you going and how you can make it into something functional. It can be very rewarding.
10. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Eat, drink, love, and love again.
PS.Be so kind to get back to me if you would like me to make an awesome Blagg Obscure Music mixtape? Cheers!
