When was this album released?

So Raster-Noton has split up into two distinct entities. I won’t speculate on what exactly happened, but now we have two labels (again). Olaf Bender will remain behind the wheel of Raster (subtitled as an artistic platform) which includes the archive and all past catalog, while Carsten Nicolai will go on to develop Noton, which most likely will focus on Alva Noto‘s output. Hopefully, in the process, the listeners won’t suffer. In fact, Raster has already pleased its followers with the self-titled debut from Island People back in June of 2017. And now we are honored with a brand new project going by the name of Belief Defect.First premiered at Berlin Atonal, this project consists of an anonymous duo, striving to “abandon any claim or credit in an attempt to transcend the limits authorship imposes, avoid the boundaries or expectations earned or self-imposed and find the clearest, most direct path to their music for themselves and the listener.”  Source here: this site.

What I’ve liked about this album?

I liked the fact that I didn’t like it at first. It was rough, too dark and almost…mean. And then, after some time, I have come across one song in particular, it was “Deliverance”. It was different, it was not mean but it had that “Blackfilm’s evil twin” atmosphere, so I kept playing it. After some time, the song was playing.. and there it was, a girl’s voice, saying “Otkud sad to?”(“Where is this coming from?”), repeatedly and it got me hooked up in a second. Am I hearing well? Is this real? I kept playing it over and over and in the wonder of hearing my birth language rolled up and well”hidden” in a dark place like this. The rest of the album revealed itself to me, one-bit by bit.

What I hated about this album?

It can be too much on a psyche, sometimes.

If this album was a dish, what dish would it be?

It would be a  part of some sacred ritual performed by the post-humans in a post-apocalyptic era. It would not be tasty.

If this album was a place, where would it be?

Someplace Mad Max-like.

Is this album more a man or a woman?

I would say, both. This album is beyond gender, beyond genre, beyond humans, actually.

This album can be a drink, too. What drink would it be?

As for food: It would be a  part of some sacred ritual performed by the post-humans in a post-apocalyptic era. It would not be tasty.

A go-to song from this album?

Deliverance. The only song that would not scare your loved ones, I guess?

Similar albums, similar artists?

Blackfilm meets Lustmord.

How can this album make your life better?

It cannot.
